Mayor John Tory Wants Toronto “To Be The Most Friendly Place In North America” For Startups

June 25, 2015 - Toronto Mayor John Tory appeared at Bell's announcement of plans to launch Gigabit Fibre in the city this summer. Mr. Tory explained that he wants the city to be the "most friendly place in North America" for startups. He highlighted the city's unique positioning relative to other major cities worldwide, stating that "we are the innovation centre of the country, and the difference between Toronto and other cities is that we have both financial and innovation capitals here." He stressed that the city would have to be more coordinated in developing a conscious startup strategy and advancing financial institutions to make available more capital for startups.
