05/11/2015 - Montréal, Quebec - Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada
The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade, kicked off the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) annual convention and outlined the actions the Harper government is taking to ensure that Canada’s world-class extractive sector will continue to thrive and represent an engine of economic growth and prosperity for Canadians.
Demonstrating the government’s continued support for the extractive sector, Minister Fast announced $147,800 in Global Opportunities for Associations (GOA) funding this year for CIM to help its members expand abroad.
“Canadian government support contributes to the success of our activities to attract, expand and retain foreign direct investment in Greater Montréal, thereby generating high-value-added jobs in promising sectors. Through the ICCI program, we are able to develop new, highly targeted prospecting tools, thereby increasing our effectiveness in promoting Greater Montréal’s economic strengths, attractiveness and international competitiveness.”
