Canada: A Leader in the Development of Smart Grid Technology

Jiri Skopek, Managing Director, Energy and Sustainability at ECD JLL provided an overview of Canada's leading smart grid technology landscape and its positive impact on Canadian manufacturing industry and the economy in general. .He also cited a 2014 report from Global Smart Grid Federation, that “With 49 percent smart meter penetration, almost 5GW in distributed generation, over 4000 electric vehicles, and almost 1,100 charging stations, Canada has rallied behind the smart grid since 2007, becoming one of the earliest adopters of smart grid technology.”

The report also cites Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, and British Columbia as provinces that are leading the charge to offer smart grid infrastructure.
